Kitchen Cabinet Assembly Instructions

WSKonnekt Cabinet Assembly Instructions

Follow these helpful instructions to achieve the best results when ordering cabinets from WSKonnekt.

  • Removal of Present Kitchen Set Up

Having removed all kinds of kitchen equipment inclusive of refrigerator, gas oven, dishwasher, sink and so on disconnect water as well as power supply. Do not forget to disconnect the utility lines. This would not only provide with much space for remodeling to be done but also help in the installation in an organized way.

Note:

In case you don’t have any experience regarding the dislodgment of utility connections, you should seek out a trained professional for help.

  • Floor and Wall Unevenness

Many a time the installation is affected by wall or floor unevenness. In that case your affected wall or floor would require shimming or scribing. This is because these processes would facilitate a better installation.

The unevenness can be sorted out in the following manner:

  1. 1.      Floor Unevenness

In case of floor unevenness, you need to take a carpenter’s level and place it on the high point of the floor. Now with one end of the ruler placed on the high point, select another point on the floor within 24” where the cabinet is to be set up and connect the two points by a straight line. This line is what we call base line. In case you want the installation of base cabinets, spot another horizontal line up to 34 ½” from that of the base line. In case of taller cabinets this measurement should be 84” to 96” from the base line. The base top is to be spotted simultaneously.

  1. 2.      Wall Unevenness

To set up a cabinet on the wall all that you need to do is create an outline of the cabinets to be lodged on the wall. This would clear all confusion regarding the dimensions.

Note:

Do not misjudge the dimensions to be the box dimensions. You need to measure the front frame of the cabinets to be lodged. This is because the front frames measures up to 3/16” on each of the box’s ends.

Like the floor, wall unevenness is to be measured by that of the carpenter’s ruler and high spots need scraping off while the low spots are shimmered. This is extremely important since unevenness can lead to misaligned cabinet doors as well as drawer fronts.

  • Searching for Studs

It is quite easy to find out the studs on the wall which can be done either by the help of a magnetic stud finder or gentle wall tapping. A solid sound on tapping the wall would identify the stud point. Mark these points by means of a nail besides being sure that the marked areas are to be covered by the cabinets. Before you start off with the installation do not forget to remove the cabinets; doors as well as drawers.

  • Corner Wall Cabinet Installation

A wood furring strip measuring 1”x2” is to be nailed on the marked cabinet line. This is to be followed by a corner installation. After having measured from the corner to the first marked stud the measurement is to be directed to the cabinet’s inner side. The same is to be done for each stud. Now a hole measuring up to 3/16” has to be drilled from within the cabinet having left ¾”from the top as well as the bottom. Now the cabinet has to be raised against the wood furring strip besides supporting it with a wooden scrap lumber. The cabinet is to be fastened into the wall by means of an 8x2 1/2” Wooden screws.

Note:

Make sure to leave space between the wall and the cabinet.

  • Next Wall Cabinet Installation

Follow the same instructions as stated above. For the next installation the extras required are two C clamps so as to align the adjoining cabinet’s vertical stiles and tight hold. The two cabinets are to be screwed with the same wooden screws after having created a hole on each of their hinges. Follow up with shimming and tighten the screws now. Ensure that each and every cabinet has been fitted well before the final shimming and leveling.

  • Fillers and Valances Installation

The role of filler is to level odd dimensions while installation of next to wall cabinet. They ensure a lot of flexibility for smooth operation on the part of drawers as well as doors especially when it is blind corner cabinet. The filler is meant to be cut into an approximate size such that it fits into the cabinet corner. For that purpose draw two lines on its backside, one at the top and another at the bottom. This is to be followed by drill at the hinges and fastening by means of wooden screws. Valance installation is similar to that of the fillers except from the fact that it requires symmetrical design.

  • Base Cabinet Installation in the Corner

Start off with shimming such that the cabinet is placed at a mark, 34 ½” from that of the base line. Placing those mean, screwing them through hanging rail with filler into the already marked studs. The two cabinets are to be fastened together.

Note:

Do not forget to spare space between the wall and the cabinet.

In case of easy reach corner base:

After having drilled a pilot hole at the hinges the adjacent cabinets are to be attached to that of the carousel. The drilling is to be done into the carousel’s tile trough the adjacent cabinet’s stile. Screwing all of them together requires wooden screws. The three cabinets having attached together the entire unit is to be placed in the corner by fastening them through hanging rail, on the wall.

In case of base corner filler:

Two adjacent cabinets are to be attached to common filler by the same process as that of the above, which is, drilling at hinge level though the stiles into the filler, followed by screwing. This is to be followed by lodging it on the wall after having attached together in the same manner as that of the above.

  • Installation of the Next Cabinet

Just as all the cabinets are installed; the same technique applies to the rest of them. The requirements are clamps, stiles and screws. Make sure to level the wall or floor before the final screwing in of the cabinets.

  • Installation of Countertop

After having placed the countertops on the cabinet, attach them by inserting screws into the cabinet corner braces drilled previously.

  • Trimming followed by Molding

You may trim any of the cabinet portions that collide against the adjacent walls or ceilings. In that case you need to take proper measurements. The molding requires a nail or a screw to attach itself to the cabinet’s face frame. Give a neat cut wherever moldings meet a forty five degree angle.

  • Finishing Touch and Door Adjustment

You might be thinking that your job is now complete having placed all the cabinets. But the fact is that leaves your task incomplete. To add grace to your kitchen you need to fix all misaligned doors and follow with touch ups. With the help of a touch up kit you can remove scratches caused by shipping while delivery.

  • Troubleshooting

Even after strict supervision in the factory, ordered objects are likely to be damaged especially during delivery by means of ship. The same might occur during installation. Below are a list of the possible problems and their solutions:

Huge Gaps on Door Top and Bottom against the frame of the face:

  • You require to either adjust the hinge or the square of the cabinet
  • Dry weather conditions are likely to damage doors.
  • Scrutinize the cabinet alignment for the purpose of leveling and plumbing. Cabinet and door hinge requires adjustment.
  • Control the humidity level so as to keep it at 350 degrees.

Misalignment of Cabinets  / Misalignment of Double Doors

  • Align the cabinets with the help of shims by loosening the screws.
  • Adjust the screws after loosening them.

Misplaced Drawer Track / Drawer Face Panel Misfit

  • Position the glide of the drawer to the center after removing it.
  • The drawer requires to be inserted back to fix the misplacement.
